To The Root of Rocket

"Disgusting!" Rafi threw the bag on the bed. Hassan, elder brother of Rafi, noticed the matter.

"What happened? Looks like your mood is so hot!"

"Nothing to say brother. You know what? We got a new physics teacher today. He is an ultra advanced man. Teaching us university level study. Today, he gave lecture on rocket science for the whole class. I did not understand anything. After the class he gave us an assignment for the next class also. We have to make a model of a rocket and take that in the next class. How funny! Teacher also gave us some instruction about the

making process. So what! I am not going to make any model of rocket." Rafi told the story while unbuttoning his college shirt.

"Why did your sir suddenly start teaching rocket science?" Hassan asked.

"The fact is, there was no fault of sir. One of our classmates is over studious! All the time he reads book. He suddenly wanted to know about rocket science in the class. He asked our sir about it. Sir, too, opened his store of knowledge. We just had to listen to this boring lecture. " Hassan laughed at Rafi's style of speaking.

"But you know what, rocket science is a very interesting subject. If you can understand the

theme of it, you will pass your all day with rocket science."

"Yes, brother! No need to share any more knowledge."

"Okay. I'm not saying anything right now. You have just come home from college. Go and get fresh. In the evening, I will sit down with you to discuss about rocket science." Rafi shouted as he heard Hassan's voice.

"Please brother, don't talk about this rocket science."

"Well, okay." Hassan answered with a smile.

In the evening, Hassan sat with Rafi. Astronomy is one of Hassan's favorite subjects. He has

done enough study on the subject.

"Rafi, what do you know about rockets?"

"Nothing." Rafi answered in a careless voice.

"Rafi, please don't mischievous. Listen carefully to me. If you don't feel good then I won't force you again anymore."

"Really?"

"Yes. But you have to listen to my words and try to understand them."

"That's okay." Rafi agreed.

"Okay. Now answer my question." Hassan is somewhat relaxed. Rafi will respond to him now for some time.

"Brother, actually I really don't know that much about rocket science. I just know Bangladesh

sent a satellite to space in 2018 named 'Bangabandhu Satellite-1'." Hassan laughed after

hearing Rafi's speech.

"Wow! You know so much."

"Brother, Don't make fun of me. I'll get up then."

"Okay, Okay, I'm not gonna do fun anymore. Now can you say how did the man discover the

rocket?"

"I do not know."

"I understand that you don't know. But I told you to guess."

"Umm! Brother! Nothing is coming in my brain." Rafi gave up after thinking a little.

"Hey you couldn't even guess anything. Now listen to me. The evidence of using the rocket was first found in China. Do you know what did they do with rockets that time?"

"What?" Rafi asked in a curious voice. Hasan smiled a little. Then he said,

"The Chinese first used these rockets as fireworks."

"Really!?" Rafi was quite surprised.

"Yes." Rafi laughed at the encouragement of Rafi.

"Then? Who came up with the idea of sending this fireworks to space?"

"Slow down my brother! Obviously I will say that." Hassan stopped laughing. Then he started again,

"It was 1232. The war between China and Mongols was going on. In that war, the Chinese

suddenly discovered that rockets could be used as a good weapon. They used rockets as a weapon for the first time in that war. The subsequent incident is tragic for humankind.

Periodically Mars and Indians learned how to use rockets. Later it spread to Middle East and

Europe. The rockets were used in almost every war and killed many people. In the early

twentieth century, under the famous scientist Warner von Braun, Germany successfully tested various rockets.

V2 was the most successful rocket made by them. Unfortunately, these rockets

were also used in World War II. caused many loss of life." Rafi was shocked by hearing this

devastating history of the rocket.

"Then the devastation that went on in World War II, the bombs that were dropped on

Hiroshima-Nagasaki, are made from the idea of Chinese-made fireworks!" Rafi said with a

smile.

"Yes." Hassan started again.

"So far I have told you the story of the terrible crash of the rocket. Now listen how man made it

possible to send rockets into space." Rafi became excited to hear.

"The discovery of modern rockets is quite new. Russian teacher Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

proposed the launch of a spacecraft with a rocket. In 1903, he published a report. He mentioned

that a remote rocket could be made by using liquid fuel. He is considered as the father of rocket

science. Yet this new theory seems unrealistic to many people. Later in the 1923, US physicist

Robert Goddard mathematically explained how it is possible to reach many heights with the help

of a rocket. His method is known as "meteorological sounding rocket." After World War II,

Russia and the United States began to rise ground war, the race to win space. Russia first

sends artificial satellites to the orbit of the earth, which was 'Sputnik-1'. Then on Sputnik-2, the first living creature was sent to space, a dog named "Laika". 'Vostok 1' mission successfully sends the first man to the orbit of the earth. Nowadays, scientists are discovering new mysteries of space every day."

"At first it was quite interesting. But after listening to your boring lectures at the last, I was feeling asleep." Rafi was smiling.

"It's not literature. It's a realistic discussion. So obviously you will feel bored a little."

"Not a little. I am fully bored. I'm going." Rafi got up from his bed and went to his room. Hassan is feeling better now. By seeing Rafi's face he understand that Rafi liked Rocket Science.
